Submission Tips
for Online Publishing
|
For those of you getting ready to submit a book for the first time
I'll take a moment to describe what I need from you in order to publish your book as soon
as possible. These tips are money savers too, because if the book is submitted as
described below, it will save you money because I will have to ad reformatting charges for
incorrectly submitted materials.
|
- Microsoft Word, Corel Word Perfect, or text ONLY email are the only
accepted formats for your manuscript, with the following stipulations:
- Manuscript files with each chapter saved as a separate filename (20
chapters= 20 files) in separate email messages to a specified address I will send to
you. Graphics files also should be submitted 1 at a time, in separate email
messages. Each email message must contain the title of your manuscript & chapter
number or other identifying message in the subject title.
- An email message specifying your choice of 1) Teaser package (Up to 3
chapters of your book, with option for viewers to purchase remainder of your book, OR 2)
Standard package (Entire book offered online to viewers at no cost to them), as well as
any further input concerning font, color of background, use of graphics, etc. should be
sent to the specified address used for submitting your manuscript.
- All manuscript files need to have been saved as "text only" in
the options box of that application. This will strip any special formatting characters
that may occur in your individual software and allows me to make the best use of the file.
All formatting is done as part of the publishing process. Authors do not need to submit
formatted text.
- All images for the book must be saved in one of the following
formats: GIF (.gif), or JPEG (.jpg).
- Fonts & background colors, if you have a preference, may be requested
in an email, or attached file.
- Cookbooks need to be in a consistent format, using the following
abbreviations for ingredient amounts: Tbs. = tablespoon, tsp. = teaspoon, c. = cup,
qt. = quart, pt. = pint. All recipes should include the title, author and/or
resource when available, an ingredient list, directions, and notes and/or tips.
Ingredients may not be abbreviated. Directions must specify whether cooking
temperatures given are F = Fahrenheit, or C = Celsius.
- A contract outlining details of the agreement between Web Designs by Kaylin
and You, will be emailed to you upon submission of your manuscript.
- When I receive your request for a quote, you will be sent an email asking
for your manuscript to be submitted according to the guidelines above, along with a
deposit of $49.95 or one third of the total quoted amount, as a deposit on the work to be
done. A temporary web page will be set up, where you can check on the progress of
your book, and when your manuscript is completed, your finished book will be given it's
own web page address on our virtual server upon completion of payment for my services.
- Once your online book is completed and has been given it's own web page
address, it will be submitted to as many as 900 search agents
& directories (value of 29.95 - 139.95).

Web Designs by Kaylin reserves the right to charge for formatting
corrections in file type that occur in pre-press as a result of incorrect submission
procedure.
